Salvage Experience – course objectives The Salvage Experience teaches participants to respond to maritime emergency and salvage crisis situations through a unique combination of theoretical learning and a real life case simulation.
Choose a level to suit your background There are three levels of the Salvage Experience course: Entry, Standard and Advanced.
Advanced: For participants with extensive shipping knowledge.
Standard: For senior or line management in the maritime industry, or those with broad experience in dealing with the shipping industry from an insurance, underwriting or support industry.
Entry: For participants with limited shipping experience.

Common learning objectives 1. Achieve a thorough understanding of maritime salvage operations, focused on the crisis management, operational, legal and communicational aspects involved in a major shipping casualty.
2. Be prepared to deal with salvage challenges and partake in the successful resolution of a maritime salvage crisis as leaders, managers or subject matter experts.
Level specific objectives
Level: Advanced Through a simulated salvage situation, participants will gain:
- Experience in managing operations specific to maritime crises
- Thorough practical experience in dealing with the media, national and local authorities, customers and other parties with vested interest
Participants will learn to:
- Build a picture of the casualty event.
- Create an initial company reaction plan.
- Establish a priority list of key reactions, contacts and questions in support of immediate responses.
- Precisely define the salvage mission.
- Analyze the merits and disadvantages of different types of salvage bids/contracts and determine which is the most appropriate to resolve a salvage task.
Level: Standard Participants will learn to:
- Build a picture of the casualty event.
- Produce an initial company reaction plan.
- Develop a priority list of key reactions, contacts and questions in support of immediate responses.
- Contribute to the creation of the salvage mission.
- Conduct a comparative analysis of the merits and disadvantages of different types of salvage bids/contracts.
- Determine which contract is the most appropriate to resolve a salvage task and influence or negotiate on that decision.
Through a simulated salvage situation, participants will gain:
- Experience in supporting operations specific to maritime salvage.
- Practical experience in dealing with the media, national and local authorities, customers and other parties with vested interest.
Level: Entry Through a simulated salvage situation, participants will gain:
- Experience in supporting operations specific to maritime salvage.
- Some practical experience in dealing with the media, national and local authorities, customers and other parties with vested interest.
Participants will learn to:
- Build a picture of the casualty event.
- Produce an initial company reaction plan.
- Work up a priority list of key reactions, contacts and questions in support of immediate responses.
- Understand how the salvage mission is created and their role in it.
- Conduct an analysis of the merits and disadvantages of different types of salvage bids/contracts and determine which is capable of resolving a given salvage task.
